Wain’s later psychedelic patterns, in addition to being influenced by the textile designs of his upbringing, seem from unfinished examples to have been drawn on top of a grid. He may have achieved their striking symmetry by drawing ambidextrously and simultaneously.

Wain was an advocate of families taking their pets with them and opposed the apparently then-common notion of letting them fend on their own while their owners were away.
